In 1994, Vilnius historic centre was inscribed to UNESCO World Heritage List. Authentic buildings who served defensive, residential, representative and spiritual purposes were preserved in this spectacular part of Vilnius city. Vilnius Old Town preserved Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical styles' features. This city architecture is unique, because all styles join in one harmonious esthetical unit. Very special atmosphere in Vilnius’ panorama is created by typical 17th century Vilnius Baroque school domes of the churches and restrained monumental Classical architecture.

For the whole Lithuanian nation this building is a symbol of the 50-year-long Soviet occupation. Set up in the former KGB headquarters, the museum is the only one of its kind in the former Soviet republics. It was established in the building where the plans for deportation and the arrests of peaceful inhabitants, the persecution of opponents and the suppression of the resistance were devised and carried out by Soviet institutions between 1940 and 1991.

It is believed that the three crosses were first erected here in XVII century – to commemorate a group of monks from a nearby monastery, who were martyred in XIV century. Kalnu Park consists of several hills. From these hills You can enjoy a superb and wide panoramic view of the city.
